Build a Workplace People Want to Be Part Of

Engagement is defined by what happens between surveys, not by the survey score itself.

Employee engagement — the extent to which people feel invested in their work, team, and organisation — is one of the strongest predictors of performance. Yet most engagement initiatives measure engagement without changing the things that actually drive it: relationships, purpose, manager support, and wellbeing.

Employee engagement programs are structured initiatives designed to improve the conditions that shape how invested employees feel: team connection, manager capability, recognition, meaningful work, and wellbeing. Holistic Services Group designs and delivers these programs for Australian organisations as standalone sessions, structured multi-session programs, or part of a broader annual wellbeing calendar, with 20+ years of national delivery behind every engagement. Trusted by Microsoft, Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, KPMG, Australia Post, and the Australian Federal Police.

Who these programs are for

HSG employee engagement programs are designed for:

  • Teams recovering connection after rapid growth, restructure, or a shift to hybrid work
  • Organisations whose engagement survey scores have plateaued or declined
  • HR and People & Culture teams wanting to act on engagement drivers, not just measure them
  • Distributed or hybrid workforces where existing initiatives aren’t reaching everyone
  • Whole organisations building an ongoing engagement calendar rather than one-off events
  • Leadership groups strengthening the manager behaviours that most shape team engagement

The cost of disengagement

Disengagement is expensive, and it is widespread. Only 21% of employees globally are engaged at work, a decline from 23% in 2023 (Gallup, State of the Global Workplace 2025), and low engagement cost the global economy an estimated US$438 billion in lost productivity in 2024. The flipside is just as measurable: highly engaged business units demonstrate 23% greater profitability, 51% lower staff turnover, and 63% fewer safety incidents than disengaged units (Gallup, State of the Global Workplace 2024).

Engagement is not a survey score to chase. It is a set of conditions you can actively build, and the return on doing so is well documented. For the full data, read Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace 2025.

What drives engagement — and what HSG programs address

Connection and belonging

People connected to their colleagues and a shared purpose are more engaged. Team-building and trust-building activities strengthen this directly.

Manager behaviour and leadership quality

The employee-manager relationship is the single biggest driver of team engagement. Managers who recognise effort, communicate clearly, and create psychological safety build engaged teams.

Physical and mental wellbeing

Employees managing poor mental health or chronic discomfort cannot fully engage. Programs that reduce stress and support wellbeing remove the barriers.

Recognition and meaning

People engage when their contributions are valued and their work has purpose. Programs that clarify values and increase recognition strengthen commitment.

What organisations are saying

HSG has done it again!

Having worked with HSG before I had high expectations of what I knew they could deliver and they didn’t disappoint! We put on a couple of wellness webinars for our staff and each was organised promptly, with full details and without any stone left unturned. Lisa was a fabulous help and always responded to my queries in a quick and very friendly manner. Even when one webinar didn’t quite go to plan she was quick to respond and help smooth things over which just further increased my appreciation of her and the wider HSG team. 10/10 service and would definitely recommend! A big thank you to everyone involved, including Merv and Leonie for the knowledge and tips they shared, and the general friendliness that was felt from the entire HSG team. Great job as always!

Sharon ran just a 30 minute laughter workshop for a group of cynics and we JUST LOVED IT. We had around 16-18 staff, aged from early twenties to late fifties and it was a fantastic workshop. Everyone really enjoyed it and we have continued to talk about afterwards and to share our hilarious experience with other teams. It is THE most cheering group activity I’ve ever participated in. Thank you Sharon!

Allens — Six-week health and engagement program

Industry: Legal services

Challenge: A professional services firm wanted a sustained, multi-session program to build engagement and wellbeing across staff, rather than a one-off event.

What HSG delivered: A six-week health and fitness program combining fitness classes, a meditation series, and a mindfulness seminar, adapted as the program evolved.

Outcome: Strong participation and positive staff feedback on session quality. In HSG’s experience, sustained multi-week programs are more effective than one-off events, because repeated participation builds the peer relationships that drive motivation.

We used Holistic Services to run fitness classes, meditation classes and a mindfulness seminar as part of a six-week health and fitness program for staff. They were great from the start — doing everything they could to make the program a success. Their pricing was competitive and they were adaptable when we changed elements. The instructors were excellent and staff feedback was consistently positive.

Why HSG

Holistic Services Group has delivered workplace wellbeing and engagement programs across Australia since 2003. As one provider across mental health, leadership, physical wellbeing and culture, HSG can build an engagement program that draws on every relevant discipline rather than coordinating multiple vendors. Sessions are delivered by specialist facilitators who create genuine connection, not forced fun.

Employee Engagement Programs sit within HSG’s Workplace Culture pillar. For a data-led plan first, the Custom Workplace Wellbeing Strategy assesses engagement drivers and designs the program, and the Annual Wellbeing Program delivers it as a structured 12-month calendar.

Frequently asked questions

HSG provides structured evaluation at the conclusion of each program. Common metrics include absenteeism rates, voluntary turnover, pulse and engagement survey results, participation rates, and qualitative feedback. For organisations running annual programs, HSG tracks progress against the Seven Pillars of Personal Health baseline established at the start.

Engagement programs are available for teams of all sizes. HSG offers a free initial consultation to understand your needs and priorities, followed by a needs assessment to identify your engagement drivers and recommend the right approach. You can also pilot a single session before committing to a full rollout. Contact us for a tailored quote.

Employee wellbeing and engagement are closely tied. Employees with good mental health, strong relationships, and physical vitality are more likely to engage. Poor wellbeing, including stress, burnout, isolation, and discomfort, drives disengagement and turnover. HSG’s programs address both as connected outcomes.

An employee engagement program is a structured set of initiatives that build the conditions for genuine engagement: team connection, meaningful work, manager capability, wellbeing, and recognition. Effective programs address these core drivers, not just measurement.

Yes. HSG can help your HR team design a year-round program calendar, drawing on the full service suite to tailor it to your workforce and culture. All workshop and webinar programs are available via live webinar, and for hybrid workforces HSG can design programs that reach onsite and remote employees simultaneously.
