Ergonomic assessments for safer, more comfortable work

Your people spend most of their day at a desk, and small things — a screen set too low, a chair that was never adjusted, a laptop balanced on the couch at home — add up to real discomfort over time. Ergonomic assessments are a practical, visible way to keep your team comfortable, productive and protected, whether they work in the office, at home or across both.

Ergonomic assessments are professional evaluations of how a person’s workstation fits their body and the way they work. HSG’s qualified ergonomic consultants assess setups across office, home-office and hybrid environments, covering posture, seating, screen position, keyboard and mouse placement and equipment, delivered onsite and online across Australia since 2003.

Why workstation setup is worth getting right

Desk-based discomfort can build gradually, particularly when employees move between office and home setups that are rarely reviewed.

A practical assessment can identify and address workstation issues before they contribute to ongoing discomfort, lost work time or an injury claim.

Who this is for

Ergonomic assessments suit desk-based and hybrid teams, home-office workers setting up at the kitchen table, staff already reporting aches or discomfort, and WHS-led programs aiming to prevent injury before it happens. Group workshops suit whole teams, and tailored sessions are available for specific cohorts.

What the service involves

Choose the level of support that suits your team, from individual workstation assessments and home-office reviews to practical group workshops, Tech Ergonomics, and Train-the-Trainer programs.

  • Individual assessments: review one person’s workstation in the office or at home, make hands-on adjustments, and provide a written summary of recommendations. More detailed assessments are also available for employees with an existing injury, ongoing discomfort or early signs of a problem.
  • Group workshops: teach the principles of a healthy workstation setup so employees can adjust and manage their own space with greater confidence.

Sessions are available onsite or online across Australia/Asia-Pacific and can be tailored to your workplace environment, equipment and roles.

Workplace ergonomic assessment

Outcomes you can expect

After an assessment or workshop, HSG can report on participation, adjustments made and staff feedback. Each assessment also includes a written summary of practical recommendations. By the end of a workshop, participants will be able to set up their own workstation to reduce strain.

Over time, ergonomic support can help:

  • Reduce physical discomfort and musculoskeletal strain
  • Lower the risk of injury claims and lost work time
  • Support productivity by removing daily physical friction
  • Demonstrate that you are actively managing a known workplace hazard

Regular review matters most for hybrid teams, whose setups change as they move between home and office.

What our clients say

Requested an assessment of home office setup. The physio Wade called on time and gave me useful tips on how to prevent neck and wrist injuries when working at home. Very happy with the service.

Frequently asked questions

They suit any desk-based or hybrid worker, from staff already feeling discomfort to teams setting up new home offices. Individual assessments focus on one person’s setup, while group workshops give a whole team the principles to adjust their own workstations.

Yes. HSG assesses office, home-office and hybrid setups, onsite and online. Online assessments work well for remote staff, with the consultant guiding adjustments over video and providing a written summary.

Yes. Assessments and workshops are tailored to your environment, equipment and roles, including specialised content such as tech ergonomics or ergonomics for women in the workplace.

A standard individual workstation assessment usually takes up to 20 minutes. More detailed assessments take longer (around 30 minutes plus report writing) when an employee has an existing injury, ongoing discomfort, or early signs of a problem.

As a guide, one consultant can usually assess up to 3 employees per hour. The final number depends on the complexity of each assessment, the distance between workstations and whether detailed written recommendations are required.

Written summaries are generally provided within 5 business days of the assessment. Where several employees are assessed as part of the same booking, HSG will confirm the reporting timeframe before delivery.

Each assessment includes practical adjustments on the day and a written summary of recommendations. Over time, our experience shows that ergonomic support can help reduce discomfort, lower the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, and support productivity, and workshops leave staff able to maintain a healthy setup themselves.

Policies set expectations; assessments put them into practice. Body stressing is the most common cause of serious workplace injury in Australia (Safe Work Australia, 2025), and proactively checking workstations is a practical control that helps you manage a known workplace hazard rather than wait for a claim, particularly as hybrid work moves setups out of sight.
