Best Suited for Organisations Supporting:
Whole organisations ready to commit to a structured 12-month wellbeing cycle, rather than one-off activities
HR and People & Culture teams who want the program design led by a workforce needs survey, not guesswork
Multi-site or multi-state organisations that need one coordinated calendar and consistent facilitator briefing across every location
Workforces of 100 to several thousand staff in corporate, government, healthcare, education or not-for-profit sectors
Leadership teams who need a formal, end-of-cycle evaluation with participation and progress metrics to present to the board
Organisations building a documented, ongoing program as evidence of meeting psychosocial risk obligations under amended Australian WHS Regulations

The Cost of Unstructured Wellbeing
Wellbeing initiatives delivered as disconnected events rarely move the indicators boards care about. Mental ill-health and suicide cost Australia an estimated $200–$220 billion per year, including $40–$70 billion in direct economic costs (Productivity Commission, Mental Health Inquiry Report, 2020). Almost one in five Australians experience some form of mental illness in any given year (Productivity Commission, 2020).
The evidence for structured investment is well established. Australian research has found that for every $1 invested in effective workplace mental health initiatives, organisations see an average return of $2.30 through reduced absenteeism, presenteeism and compensation claims (PwC, Creating a Mentally Healthy Workplace: Return on Investment Analysis, 2014, with Beyond Blue and the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance). Highly engaged business units demonstrate 23% greater profitability, 51% lower staff turnover, 63% fewer safety incidents, and 68% higher employee wellbeing than disengaged units (Gallup, State of the Global Workplace 2024).
The return is real, but it accrues to organisations that invest in wellbeing as a planned program rather than a series of one-off events.
What is an annual workplace wellbeing program?
An annual workplace wellbeing program is a structured, planned schedule of wellbeing initiatives delivered consistently across a 12-month period. Rather than responding to problems as they arise, it builds a foundation of support that keeps people healthy, engaged, and able to perform at their best.
A well-designed program covers the dimensions of wellbeing that matter most to your workforce: mental health and resilience, physical health, leadership capability, and workplace culture. It is coordinated by a single provider, tailored to your organisation, and evaluated to measure its impact over time.
At HSG, we use our proprietary Seven Pillars of Personal Health framework to identify where your workforce needs the most support and build your program from there.

How HSG designs your annual wellbeing program
We follow a four-stage process that moves from understanding your organisation to delivering measurable outcomes.
Stage 1: Workforce needs survey
We begin with a structured staff survey aligned with our Seven Pillars of Personal Health framework. The seven pillars are mental health, emotional health, physical health, nutritional health, social health, spiritual health, and self-fulfilment. The survey identifies which pillars most need attention in your workforce and provides a data-informed foundation for design, rather than guesswork.
Stage 2: Tailored program design
Using the survey findings, we design a program that matches your workforce’s needs, your organisation’s values, your delivery preferences (onsite, online, or hybrid), and your budget. No template programs. Every schedule is built for the organisation in front of us.
Stage 3: Program delivery
We coordinate everything: facilitator selection and briefing, scheduling, participant communications, and session delivery. HSG’s national network of specialist facilitators means we can deliver consistently across multiple sites, states, and time zones, including online via live webinar for distributed and hybrid teams.
Stage 4: Evaluation
At the conclusion of each program period, we conduct a detailed review with clear metrics and reporting designed for HR teams to demonstrate outcomes to leadership. Reports cover participation rates, engagement levels, qualitative feedback, and measurable progress across the Seven Pillars of Personal Health, with before-and-after comparisons where possible. The evaluation informs the next program cycle, creating a continuous improvement loop rather than a one-and-done exercise.
What your program can include
HSG’s annual programs draw from our full suite of workplace wellbeing services across four integrated pillars.
Mental health and resilience
Workplace mental health training, stress and burnout prevention, resilience training and growth mindset, psychological safety, positive psychology, work-life balance, and men’s and women’s health workshops.
Leadership development
Leadership development programs, manager mental health training, psychological safety for leaders, difficult conversations training, managing remote and hybrid teams, navigating uncertainty for leaders, and emotional intelligence for leaders.
Physical wellbeing
Corporate massage, ergonomic assessments, workplace fitness classes, corporate yoga and Pilates, workplace nutrition programs, and workplace health assessments, available together through HSG’s corporate health programs.
Workplace culture and team connection
Team building and culture workshops, team cooking experiences, health and wellbeing expos, Wellness Lab experiences, corporate retreats and offsites, keynote and conference speakers, and laughter yoga.
Why ongoing programs outperform one-off activities
A single wellbeing session can shift mood and energy for a day. A structured annual program shifts behaviour, culture, and organisational resilience over time.
The benefits compound with repetition. Participants need multiple exposures to new information before they internalise and act on it, so a program built around reinforcement of key messages is significantly more effective than a series of unconnected events. A full 12-month cycle also makes genuine evaluation possible: with participation and outcomes data tracked consistently across the year, HSG can report on what has actually shifted, rather than judging a single session in isolation.

Frequently asked questions
An annual workplace wellbeing program is a planned, structured schedule of wellbeing initiatives delivered consistently over a 12-month period, designed to address the specific needs of your workforce across mental health and resilience, leadership development, physical wellbeing, and workplace culture, rather than relying on one-off or reactive activities. Programs can include mental health and resilience workshops, leadership development, corporate massage, ergonomic assessments, fitness and nutrition sessions, and team-building experiences, all built into a schedule tailored to your workforce’s needs.
We begin with a structured staff survey mapped to our Seven Pillars of Personal Health framework. This identifies the areas of greatest need in your workforce. From there, we design a tailored schedule of sessions and programs, coordinate facilitators and delivery, and conduct an in-depth evaluation at the end of each program period.
Yes. HSG delivers programs in every major Australian city and region, as well as across the Asia-Pacific. All programs are available onsite, online via live webinar, or in a blended format, so every employee can participate regardless of where they work.
Most programs can be scoped and confirmed within two to three weeks of an initial consultation. We can also move quickly when organisational circumstances require it. Our facilitators are experienced at providing high-quality sessions with minimal lead time.
Investment varies depending on scope, frequency, number of participants, delivery format, and geographic reach. HSG designs programs for organisations of all sizes and can provide a tailored proposal following an initial consultation. Australian research has found a $2.30 return for every $1 invested in workplace mental health initiatives through reduced absenteeism, presenteeism and compensation claims (PwC, 2014). More recent international research has reported returns of up to £6.30 for every £1 invested (Deloitte UK, 2024).
We use a formal evaluation process at the conclusion of each program cycle, including participant feedback surveys, session engagement data, and progress tracking against the Seven Pillars of Personal Health baseline established at the start. This gives you a clear picture of what has shifted and informs the design of the next program period.
HSG’s mental health, resilience, and leadership programs are directly relevant to an organisation’s obligations under the updated Work Health and Safety regulations, which now require employers to proactively manage psychosocial hazards. Our programs can form part of your documented psychosocial risk management strategy. We recommend discussing your specific compliance context with your WHS adviser. See Psychosocial Risk Programs for more detail.
